Seattle’s Obsession With the Rain
Seattle has an unhealthy relationship with rain. Don’t get me wrong—I’m not an import who makes disparaging comments about Seattle’s climate. In fact, I’m a native Seattleite who loves the rain.
At least, I love the rain from October through June. But from July through September, gray clouds, keep your hands off my weather! It’s summer, and I need some light and warmth to recharge the vitamin D so I can greet the rain with a smile when it arrives in the fall.
Last week, we had a couple of cool days after about a week or so of summer-like 90 degree weather. Immediately people started commenting, “Whew, glad it cooled down. We really needed that rain.”
Really? We needed the rain? After just a week of summer weather? Why? Isn’t what we really need the rest of summer?
The next day, two friends made the comment, “Now that summer is almost over….” and started talking about plans for fall.
Almost over? In July? Are they kidding?
I can’t wait for the rains to come again. In October. Until then, don’t disturb my summer.
