In 2014, I set a goal of visiting every eating/drinking establishment in my neighborhood of Fremont, Seattle. Here are my reviews for the sandwich places I visited. See more reviews.

**** One of my faves!
*** On my regular “go to” list
** I’d go if a friend wanted to
* No thanks

Homegrown Fremont*** Homegrown  Excellent sandwiches made with better-than-average bread and lots of interesting, fresh ingredients. I avoid their salads, though, since they come in plastic containers. (Even if they’re freshly made there, the plastic containers turn me off.) (Downtown Fremont)
*** Eltana Bagels  What a great place! Their bagels were yummy, and just the perfect size. So many bagel places make bagels big enough for King Kong. Even me, ethnic German bread/dough lover that I am, usually feel like I have a huge lump in my stomach after eating one. But Eltana’s bagels were a good-size and not overly heavy. They also have some interesting soups on the menu I want to try—I have my eye on the roasted red pepper soup! (Stone Way)
** Subway  I confess, I didn’t actually go to the Fremont Subway. But, try one Subway, you’ve tried them all. If you’re on a road trip and need to grab fast food, it’s a much better option than some of the chain burger places. But there are so many more interesting restaurant options in Fremont, I can’t imagine ever going in here. (Stone Way)
** Royal Grinders  Apparently, their paninis are good, but I went there for the gelato (one must have priorities). Friendly servers, good gelato, and they even give you a little extra “Lenny scoop” (named for the Lenin statue standing in the square outside) of another flavor. My neighbor tells me their paninis are fabulous, and if I try them and agree, I may upgrade this place to 3 stars. (Downtown Fremont)
**1/2  Paseo’s (This place closed, but is set to re-open with similar menu. My review is based on the original place.) Everyone raves about this place and the line to get food is always a block long. I hate waiting in lines. I finally made it there one day when the stars aligned (I was hungry at 11 a.m., it was so early that there was no line, and I was able to find parking).The food really was very good, but for impatient me, it’s hard to get excited about waiting in line. I hear you can order ahead and walk right in to pay and pick up your order. The food is 3 stars, the line is 2 stars. I’ll compromise at 2½. (Upper Fremont)
